About

Oxford International Infrastructure Consortium (OXIIC) aims to facilitate international collaboration, dialogue and education in infrastructure, real estate and sustainability.

Our Mission

  • To promote research, business and investment international cooperation in infrastructure, real estate and sustainability.
  • To bring together thought leaders from academia, governments and business to explore opportunities and challenges in infrastructure, real estate and sustainability.
  • To facilitate knowledge sharing and idea exchange in infrastructure, real estate and sustainability.

Our Background

Infrastructure and real estate have, over recent decades, increasingly found themselves in the spotlight of the global economy and in development agendas. In OECD countries, deteriorating and ageing infrastructure as well as shortage of housing supply is costly to business and families, and threatens future economic growth. In developing countries, chronic underinvestment and a deficit in infrastructure and affordable housing have already become the major bottleneck to economic growth. In addition, climate change has attracted attention to the sustainability impact of these assets shaping our future life.

Given the importance of infrastructure and real estate on the world economy and for sustainability, there is a growing interest in understanding issues relevant to these themes. The lack of data and information on infrastructure and real estate is one of the main reasons why institutional investors avoid taking up their theoretical place of prominence in the market for long‐term investment in these real assets. Furthermore, given different institutional and regulatory contexts, a platform is needed to facilitate international collaboration and dialogue on infrastructure and real estate worldwide.

In this context, Oxford International Infrastructure Consortium (OXIIC) was established, with the support from the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment (SSEE) and the Infrastructure Transition Research Consortium (ITRC) of the University of Oxford, to facilitate international collaboration, dialogue and education in infrastructure, real estate and sustainability.

OXIIC has organised two global conferences on infrastructure and sustainability, bringing together 38 thought leaders from international organisations, governments, academia, financial institutions, and other public and private sectors as well as more than 300 delegates worldwide for discussing opportunities and challenges in infrastructure investment and sustainable development. In future, OXIIC will continue to endeavour to fulfil its mission.
